Description

Reenactor: British ASC Lance Corporal, Suffolk Regiment.

The Army Supply Corps (ASC) although formed in 1870 can trace their beginnings to the Royal Waggoners formed in 1794. After many iterations a new ASC was formed in 1888 and by 1893 was headquartered in Aldershot: Buller Barracks. By 1918 it had the Royal prefix (RASC) and was responsible for Transport as well as Supply duties.

The ASC officers and men were the unsung heroes of the British Army during the Great War. They supplied food, equipment such as horses or vehicles and ammunition. They travelled on horseback, used motor vehicles, railways and waterways, whatever was necessary to logistically fulfill their duties. The ASC were the backbone of the army and through their unparalleled actions contributed greatly to winning the war.
