THE BREECHES BUOY RESCUE EQUIPMENT

Description

Did you know about the close links the Coast Guard and Fort Camden share? The Breeches Buoy Rocket cart!

Below is a link to the Irish Coast Guard Historic Society home page with kind permission from Vince Farr & Skully - the Intrepid Explorers who's idea it was to Rescue Camden - & good friend Captain Brian Smith RAF (Retired), who between them rescued the Rocket Cart & Restored it to it's former Glory.

They also researched the history of this incredibly ingenious piece of equipment that was part of rescue operations within the fort (HM Coast Guard) and used by Royal Engineers stationed at Fort Camden.

The Rescue Training Exercise Pole with footings / ladder pegs is still visible to this day outside the Fort.
Explore the links within this site for more on the History of the Rocket Cart which would have been instrumental in saving many lives over the intervening years.

It begs the question: How many lives were saved with the Breeches Buoy and Rocket Cart located @ Fort Camden?
