Dublin Core

Title

Guthrie Rolling Bridge

Description

The Guthrie Rolling Bridge was invented by Mr. C. T. Guthrie. In 1869 it became a standard feature of many Palmerston Forts being constructed during this time frame. This type of bridge was installed in Fort Camden and remained in operation up until the 1960's when after jamming during rolling in was replaced initially with a temporary bridge and later a fixed bridge. Many of the fittings for the Guthrie Rolling Bridge are still visible today at Camden Fort Meagher.
